Many cars have a common problem of engine oil leakage, which is actually a normal phenomenon. As the car ages, most engines will leak oil, with some leaking earlier and others leaking later. Because the engine is composed of many components, and the entire interior of the engine is filled with oil, there must be a sealing gasket or ring between the two components to serve as a seal and prevent oil leakage. The main component of these gaskets is rubber. As the car ages, the rubber will inevitably age, and after aging, it will not seal tightly, leading to oil leakage. In practice, it usually takes six years for leakage to occur. If the sealing gasket itself has quality issues, the time of leakage will be earlier. At the beginning of the oil leakage period, it is very mild and can only be called oil leakage. If you don't pay attention to it, it will become more and more serious. If there is fresh oil flowing out, it is called oil leakage. Today we will mainly talk about where the engine leaks oil? What is the impact of oil leakage?

1. The valve cover gasket is leaking oil. The valve cover gasket is the most leaking gasket, and many cars will leak it. In addition to being related to the quality of the cushion, it is also related to the materials and design characteristics used, as the cushion is very thin and narrow, with complex bending shapes, poor antioxidant capacity, and aging faster. The valve cover is placed at the top of the engine, and after the oil leakage, it will flow down the engine body and all the way to the bottom of the engine, so the entire engine appears to be filled with oil, which looks very serious. In fact, just replacing the valve cover gasket can solve the problem. The damage to the gasket is a very minor oil leakage fault, and it is not difficult to replace. There is not much technical content, and replacement will not have a negative impact on the car. Therefore, if there is an oil leakage, it should be replaced in a timely manner, and the cost is not high.

2. Oil pan gasket. The oil pan is used to hold engine oil, and it is installed under the cylinder block. The gasket between the oil pan and the cylinder block is the oil pan gasket. It does not leak oil frequently, but it can also occur when the car is old. The oil pan gasket will not leak oil and will not flow above the engine. It will only make the entire oil pan look oily, making it easier to distinguish. Any oil leakage that occurs over time will result in a lot of oily sludge, as the engine oil is prone to adhering to dust and dirt. When there is more dust and dirt, it becomes sludge.

3. Rear crankshaft oil seal. The crankshaft of the engine is connected to the flywheel, so the crankshaft needs to extend beyond the cylinder block. The seal between the crankshaft and the cylinder block is the crankshaft rear oil seal. It can't be seen or touched because it is located at the connection between the engine and the gearbox and is blocked by the gearbox. Only when oil flows out from the gap between the engine and transmission can it be known that there is a leak. The oil flowing out from this gap may also be transmission oil, so it is necessary to distinguish what kind of oil it is. If it is transmission oil, it is torque converter oil seal oil leakage, and if it is engine oil, it is crankshaft rear oil seal oil leakage. The replacement of the crankshaft oil seal requires a relatively large amount of work and incurs high costs.

4. Front crankshaft oil seal. At the other end of the crankshaft, which is connected to the pulley, there is also an oil seal called the crankshaft front oil seal. The oil seal will also leak oil after aging, and it is the easiest to determine. As long as there is oil leakage on the inner side of the crankshaft pulley, it must be a leakage from the crankshaft front oil seal. Replacing the oil seal can solve the problem, and the amount of work is not large. Only the pulley needs to be disassembled.

There are only four places where the entire engine can leak oil, so if the vehicle is leaking oil, just look for these four places. It is best to repair oil leaks in a timely manner. In addition to the engine running out of oil, the volatile oil vapor can also corrode various circuits in the engine compartment. In summer, when the air conditioning is turned on, if there is too much oil vapor on the engine, it can be sucked into the cabin, affecting physical health.
